~ RAPA NUI GALLERY ~
Rapa Nui (in the Americas, commonly "Easter Island" or "Isla de Pascua") has fascinated the western world since Dutch sailors first sighted the island on Easter Sunday, 1722. The volcanic island is the most remote inhabited outpost on the planet, situated 2,250 km from the nearest other human habitation, tiny Pitcairn Island (of HMS Bounty fame). The nearly three centuries that have passed since Europeans encountered the island and its unique anthropology have done little to diminish the sense of mystery and wonder it conjured then. Even today, Rapa Nui leaves an indelible imprint upon the minds of those that visit.
